Intended Educational (Student) Outcome:

Note: There should be one form C for each intended outcome listed on form B.  Intended outcome should be restated in the box immediately below and the intended outcome number entered in the blank spaces.

Outcome # 2

To be able to demonstrate the acquisition of basic clinical skills and the ability for their effective application with diverse populations

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

___ a.  Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:

Final project in Solution Focused Brief Therapy in which a student demonstrates via videotape his/her attempt to apply SFBT to a specific, current clinical case.

___ b. Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results:

The data was collected from a Rubric used to evaluate the final project. The criteria for successfully meeting this objective was that all students will pass the project with a grade of 70% or higher. 97.9 % of students passed with a grade of at least 70%, which means that the objective was not met.

___ c.  Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:

The course Brief Solution Focused Therapy was removed from the curriculum and replaced with a Theory of Counseling course.  It was determined that using a single theoretical approach to counseling limits students investment in acquiring clinical skills within theoretical models that fit their personal philosophy of life. The new course will introduce basic clinical skills as they relate to a broader variety of theory and practice of counseling.  A new project will be used to evaluate clinical skill acquisition within one of the theories presented in the new course.

___ d.  Follow up from previous academic year.  (If action items were listed in the future tense in section C of last year’s report, use section D to indicate whether the action item was fully implemented this year).

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

___ a.  Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:

Student Evaluations. Success was determined by 80% of students rating that the course outcomes were achieved at a very good or excellent level.

___ b. Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results:

Data was collected from the student evaluations given at the end of the course.  90% of students rated that the outcomes of the course were achieved at a very good or excellent level.  These results exceed the desired outcomes of this objective.

___ c.  Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:

Student evaluations were reviewed by program director and passed along to the instructor to review.

___ d.  Follow up from previous academic year.  (If action items were listed in the future tense in section C of last year’s report, use section D to indicate whether the action item was fully implemented this year).

Outcome # 3

To be able to demonstrate the ability to function professionally and effectively in a clinical setting in both the public and private sectors of the mental health system

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

___ a.  Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:

Final Tape and Evaluative Transcript in which a student demonstrates his/her ability to apply relationship building and working stage skills. Success was measured by all students passing the assignment at 70% or higher.

___ b. Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results:

The data was collected from a Rubric used to evaluate the assignment. 100% of students passed with a grade of at least 70%.  Results successfully met the criteria for success as it relates to this outcome.

___ c.  Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program:

The results confirm that changes made in the course, including video and transcript assignment would increase the student’s attention to an effective level of clinical functioning.  The assignment seemed to motivate students toward more rigorous review of their own ability therefore increase their level of effectiveness.  A criteria of 80% will be used next year to increase the level of success to meet this criteria.

___ d.  Follow up from previous academic year.  (If action items were listed in the future tense in section C of last year’s report, use section D to indicate whether the action item was fully implemented this year).
