The Spanish major supports the Christian educational mission of MidAmerica Nazarene University by offering an academically rigorous program.

Intended Educational (Student) Outcomes:

1.         The Spanish major demonstrates advanced conversational proficiency in the target language according to the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Guidelines.

2.         The Spanish major demonstrates proficiency in writing Spanish by correct use of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary.

3.         The Spanish major has knowledge of culture – including geography, history, arts, religion, politics, daily living, and customs of the Hispanic people.

1.  The Theatre major develops the ability to observe, analyze, and reflect on human behavior through theory, production, and performance of theatre.

2.  The Theatre major develops critical thinking and problem-solving from multiple perspectives through the creation of theatre for diverse audiences.

3.  The Theatre major prepares students for a future in the field of theatre or communication arts (i.e., education, graduate school, professional, noncommercial, and/or ministry).

Intended Educational (Student) Outcome:   The English major demonstrates knowledge and appreciation of literature both as an art form and as a historical account of humanity’s effort to understand itself and its world.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

            A.         Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: 80% or English Majors will                        achieve 80% or better on the three (3) Literary Criticism Critical Theory Papers.

B.         Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results: 5/5 (100%) achieved 80% or better on the literary criticism papers

C.                 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: Continue monitoring scores. Due to the small number of students, it is not deemed necessary to change the assignment at this time.

D.        Continued to use results to improve program. Since the number of students was small, no specific changes were made.

            A.         Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:  80% of English Majors                             will achieve 70% or better on the Senior Comprehensive Examination.
