            A.         Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: 80% or English Majors will                        achieve 80% or better on the three (3) Literary Criticism Critical Theory Papers.

 

B.         Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results: 5/5 (100%) achieved 80% or better on the literary criticism papers

 

C.                 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: Continue monitoring scores. Due to the small number of students, it is not deemed necessary to change the assignment at this time.

D.        Continued to use results to improve program. Since the number of students was small, no specific changes were made.

Intended Educational (Student) Outcome:  The Mass Communication major prepares students for a future in various areas of communication (i.e., business, media, education, and/or graduate school).

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

 

A.        Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:  80% of students will successfully complete a semester’s internship (120 hours) in an approved setting supervised by communication department faculty. Successful completion requires a satisfactory to proficient evaluation from the student’s on-site supervisor.

 

            B.         Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results:  4/5 (80%) of students            submitted all required documentation and achieved a satisfactory to proficient       evaluation from the on-site supervisor of the internship.

 

C.                 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: No change indicated.

Intended Educational (Student) Outcome: The Speech/Theatre Education major develops competencies that contribute to vocational competency and individual fulfillment.

First Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

 

A.         Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success:  80% of students will achieve 80% or better on the Comm 4112 Methods of Teaching Speech and Theatre notebook, compiled the semester prior to student teaching, representing overall content knowledge and practice teaching experiences, graded by a rubric.

 

B.         Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results: 2/2 (100%) students            achieved 80% or better on the Methods of Teaching Speech and Theatre       notebook.

 

C.                 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: No change indicated.

 

D.                 Continued to use results to improve program.

 

Second Means of Assessment for Outcome Identified Above:

 

                        A.         Means of Program Assessment & Criteria for Success: 100% of students will        successfully complete a semester of student teaching in the content areas of     speech and/or theater. Although the communication faculty observes their           teaching, the final determination of pass/fail is made by the education                   department.

 

                        B.         Description of Data Collection & Assessment Results: 1/1 (100%) students            successfully completed a semester of student teaching in secondary speech      and theatre classrooms.

 

C.                 Use of Results to Improve Instructional Program: No change indicated.

 

D.        Continued to use results to improve program. Student who completed student teaching was hired to teach Speech/Theatre at the secondary level for the 08-09 school year.
